THESISAfter centuries of mistreatment and broken treaties by the U.S. government, Native Americans decided to take a stand and fight for their fundamental rights to land, better government treatment, and cultural identity. At the height of their protests, they occupied Alcatraz Island from November 20th, 1969, to June 11, 1971. Though the occupation fell into disarray, it brought to light the harsh treatment towards Native Americans, succeeded in securing their rights, and fueled the Red Power Movement.
